The General Prosecutor's Office of the Russian Federation hosted the meeting with the Director-General for Human Rights and the Rule of Law of the Secretariat of the Council of Europe

On October 26, 2017, the General Prosecutor's Office of the Russian Federation hosted a meeting with Mr. Christos Giakoumopoulos, Director General of the Directorate General Human Rights and Rule of Law of the Secretariat of the Council of Europe.

The event was attended by Mr. Saak Karapetyan, Deputy Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation, Christine Mary, Adviser on Legal Reforms and Human Rights of the Human Rights Policy and Co-operation Department of the Directorate General Human Rights and Rule of Law, as well as the heads of the offices of the Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation and the representatives of the Secretariat of the Council of Europe.

Mr. Saak Karapetyan congratulated Mr. Christos Giakoumopoulos on his appointment to the current position in his welcome address.

He highly appreciated the cooperation of the Prosecutor General's Office of Russia with the Council of Europe, which enables the exchange of the best practices in the protection of the rights of citizens. At the same time, according to Mr. Saak Karapetyan such cooperation gives an opportunity to share Russia's experience in maintaining the rule of law and countering the challenges and threats to global security with foreign partners.

The Russian side has constructive relations with the Directorate General Human Rights and Rule of Law, based on mutual understanding. The cooperation is carried out within the framework of joint programmes between Russia and the Council of Europe. One of them is programme "Help" which introduces the European system of human rights education for Russian lawyers.

In early October, the Academy of the General Prosecutor's Office of the Russian Federation hosted the first meeting of the working group on the introduction of the training course "Help" for Russian prosecutors.

In conclusion, the Deputy Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation expressed his hope for further bilateral dialogue, which will undoubtedly serve to strengthen cooperation between the General Prosecutor's Office and the Council of Europe.
